Does Coconut Oil Clog Arteries?

Even if the science isn't there, why at least not try treating Alzheimer's with coconut oil? Well, unlike other natural remedies like the spice saffron which was able to beat out placebo and seemed to work as well as the leading drug without the side effects, coconut oil is one of the rare plant sources of saturated fat normally only found in animals which tends to increase LDL or bad cholesterol, the number one risk factor for our number one killer: heart disease.

You want to try coconut oil on someone with Alzheimer's for a few days to see if it makes a difference? Fine! I'd try almost anything, but if as expected you don't see any improvement, I'd be hesitant to keep anyone on it long term.

Now, those selling coconut oil say one needn't worry because coconut oil contains a saturated fat that doesn't raise cholesterol. You hear the same thing from the beef people. The National Cattlemen's Beef Association is always going on about how beef contains a saturated fat called stearic acid, unlike those evil saturated fats: palmitic, myristic and lauric acids which do increase blood cholesterol levels, stearic acid has been shown to have a neutral effect on blood cholesterol.

Now, see that's true, and beef does contain stearic acid, but guess what? It has twice as much of the palmitic and myristic. Which they just admitted does raise cholesterol. It's like Coca Cola saying they know for a fact that soda doesn't make you gain weight because Coke contains water, and water has a neutral effect on weight gain. Yea, but that's not the only thing in it. And the same thing with beef, and the same thing with coconut oil.

Years ago I profiled this study that found that cholesterol levels were significantly lowered during a coconut oil diet, but only when compared to a butter diet. You know you've got a problem when the only way you can make your product look good is to compare it to diets rich in butter. Yes, it made bad cholesterol go up, but not as bad as butter, but how much is that really saying? Now that was all the science we had for ten years, but four new studies have recently come out: a population study and three clinical studies. The population was of Filipino women, and although those that ate the most coconut oil had the worst levels of bad cholesterol, those that ate the most coconut oil were also more over weight which alone can raise your cholesterol.

When the fact that the coconut oil eaters were eating more calories were more over weight when that was kind of factored out, the rise in cholesterol lost statistical significance. To really control for factors, though, you've gotta put it to the test. The first clinical trial involved giving people two tablespoons of coconut oil a day for three months, and their bad cholesterol went up a bit, but not significantly. During this time, though, they were all forced to lose weight by being placed on a calorie restricted diet. When you lose weight, your LDL should drop naturally. The fact that it didn't on the coconut oil, suggests an adverse effect.

The most encouraging study was this one: An open-label (meaning not blinded, no control group) pilot study in which two tablespoons of coconut oil a day for a month added to their regular diet did not worsen their cholesterol; though when tested in a better designed study (randomized, cross-over trial), coconut oil did significantly worsen bad cholesterol.

Hence the recommendation from Harvard "If you're going to use it, use it sparingly". Now look, if you're eating so healthy that your LDL cholesterol is under 60 or 70, then it may not be a problem. Unlike saturated animal fats, coconut oil doesn't cause that spike in inflammation immediately after consumption of animal foods which makes sense because, as you'll remember, maybe the dead bacterial endotoxins in animal products ferried into the body by saturated fat that are to blame.

In this study, for example, they compared the effects of chocolate cake made out of coconut oil, flax seed oil or cod liver oil on the effects on inflammatory markers not much change in the inflammatory gene expression for the coconut or flax cakes, but cod liver oil cake may indeed be worse.

Coconut Oil for Thyroid Health

Hi there. Carlos Here. A reader asks: I've heard that coconut oil is being studied as a help for hyper-thyroidism. Do I have any ideas on this theory? Well first of all, we need healthy fats and oils in our diet I really believe. And coconut oil is the latest of these healthy fats. For a long time we thought that the saturated fats that were in coconut oil were concerning with cholesterol and other problems in the body.

But really what coconut oil contains is good quality fatty acids and particularly, medium chained triglycerides. MCTs, which are more readily absorbed and seem to help the cells, cell membranes, and even brain function. So since it helps energy, that's one of the main symptoms of low thyroid and that can be reduced a bit with adding coconut oil to your diet. Because it seems to help with brain function, many doctors are suggesting coconut oil, maybe one to two tablespoons a day, for people with memory loss or dementia or Alzheimers And that needs to be studied as well a little bit more.

One of the main concerns is the thyroid and it is a very common problem, low thyroid function, and often this is shown by testing that your doctor or practitioner can run on you. But if you have issues of sluggishness and fatigue, coldness in your body, hair loss, dry skin, these are some of the symptoms of low thyroid and you should be checked out. If you are going to use coconut oil, get a good quality, fresh, non-hydrogenated oil that is very available now. So that's my ideas on coconut oil and thyroid and there needs to be more studies done with this as is the case with many nutritional support products.

Coconut Oil plus Coffee - The Secret New Formula

Hey, it's Carlos. Good morning everyone. It's sort of 7:00 AM in the morning. It's time for coffee, and what better way of introducing coconut oil and the benefits of them. Because, I don't know if you've heard about it, but you can mix coconut oil with coffee. And you're probably thinking, what is this guy up to? I'll show you in a second, so stay tuned.

OK, welcome back Bloggers. Why am I making this post? Because I normally have coffee in the morning. Now, I want to supercharge my coffee today with some coconut oil. Now, why coconut oil? You're asking, you know, Carlos, what does coconut oil do? Well, let me tell you. I picked out the three benefits, the three main things why I think coconut oil is really beneficial for your coffee.

And if you Google it, you will see everyone tells you it's a super food, because the nations on this planet who sort of live off coconuts, because that's one of the main resources around their area where they live and their environment, they're one of the healthiest on this planet. They don't only drink the coconut water and eat the coconut inside, they also make creams out of it and rub it on their bodies and they use it as some sort of medicine. And there's a good reason for it. Let me tell you the top three.

Number one is it's a fat, but it's an MCT, a mid chain triglyceride, compared to other fats, which are long chain triglycerides. The difference is that your body takes longer to break down long chain triglycerides, and that happens in your intestines down there somewhere. For it to then be utilized as energy only happens not when you do high-intensity training. Fat is more or less the resource you have when you do aerobic exercise.

So mid chain just means that your liver breaks that down into ketone bodies. And what's the good thing about that? Well, your brain uses ketone bodies which are preferred to glucose. And isn't that brilliant? So you mix your coffee in the morning, which sort of is a stimulant. It gets your metabolic rate up and stuff, so you're starting to get more focused. And you mix it with the coconut oil. What happens? Your liver turns it into ketone bodies, and you get even more alert, more focused. And not only that, coffee is just the stimulant and coconut oil is more or less the energy you need to keep going.

Number two benefit is that studies have shown that if you eat coconut oil compared to a different oil or fat, this is increasing your energy expenditure and your metabolic rate as well. So in the long-term, eating coconut oil will lead to weight loss as well, which is brilliant. And the last fact is that it suppresses hunger. So you feel less hungry, and this is a good thing in the morning, especially if you're trying to lose weight and you're trying to find some sort of thing and you feel a bit peckish in the morning. You're like, I need to have this croissant. I need to have this chocolate. Whatever you eat, try to eat some coconut oil in your coffee because that way if you have a bit of coconutish coffee flavor, which is really nice.

Now I'm going to prepare one. I'm going to drink it, and show you how it looks like and how you do that. So give me a second.

So coffee is pouring in, pouring in, pouring in.

Yeah, this takes, like, ages right? OK, so here's my coffee.

You can see just normal coffee. Black coffee, that's important. You take your coconut oil, and its preferred something like that much. That should be all right. Just put it inside. And it's going to then-- if you can see it here. I'll see if you can see it. Maybe, maybe not. It swims on the top a bit of the surface, obviously, because it's fat. And it takes probably, depending on how hot your coffee is, but maybe one minute to get totally dissolved. That's basically it. Coffee done.

Now, one question I had a couple of times was, Carlos, could I put in some milk? Well, if you want to have the most benefit out of it, I would not put milk inside, because milk is an insulinogenic, which means that because of the lactose in milk, it spikes your insulin. And what we want by drinking this sort of drink is we don't want to spike our insulin. Because you just came out of a fast, because you wake up in the morning, that means to get all the benefits of your body still utilizing your body fat as energy and maybe a little bit of the coconut oil you've just eaten right now-- compared to the milk utilizing it.

Because what happens as your insulin spikes, it basically shuts down using your fat as energy and switches to a different mode. So the fat burning mode is off. That's why don't put any milk inside your coffee. Yeah, easy peasy, right? That's basically it. That's how you make coconut coffee. You know all about it now, all the benefits. So if you like this post, just Click Here right now. And let me know how you get on in the mornings making these coffees. Just don't forget to subscribe to my blog, because you're going to get all these nice little tips into your inbox so you don't have to worry about finding me again on the internet. I'm going to enjoy my cup of coffee, and then I'm going to go to the gym because that's my last tip. It's good to have this before going to the gym to do your workout. It's like a little boost so you're really focused. And you keep using your energy, your fat as energy, rather than anything else. And then you have your breakfast afterward. See you guys.

Coconut Oil: Get Rid of Acne Forever

Hey, guys, Carlos here from virgincoconutoilbenefit.blogspot.com. Today I'm going to share with you my four secrets to get rid of acne forever. I'll tell you, this is probably going to be the most effective acne treatment plan you will ever hear in your life. I'm going to break down top foods to get rid of acne, the top supplements to get rid of acne, the top face wash. Also, the top foods you must get out of your diet immediately if you want to get rid of your acne for good.

One of the main causes of acne today is the buildup of bad bacteria, yeast and candida in your gut and digestive tract. So if we're going to cure candida forever, if we're going to cure acne forever, there are a few things that you must do.

Let me also say this. What are some of the causes of this? You may say to yourself, "I don't know what caused my acne. I don't know what necessarily caused bad bacteria to grow on my body," which again is a major causative factor. I can tell you this right now. If you have been exposed to or taken antibiotic drugs in the past that can be a major causative factor. If you've taken birth control pills, if you've drank chlorinated and fluorinated water, if you've consumed too much sugar, all of these things can increase the growth of bad bacteria, yeast and candida within your body.

So let's talk about our number one secret for getting rid of acne for good. Remove these three foods. Number one, you've got to get sugar out of your diet. Sugar feeds yeast and it feeds candida, so we've got to get the sugar out of your diet. I recommend getting sugar out and replacing it with stevia. Stevia is an all-natural, low-calories/no calorie sweetener that you can use instead. So use stevia. If you want to use something that actually has sugar and you're baking or cooking, use raw honey. Raw honey is going to be your best overall sweetener with sugar if you're trying to get rid of acne.
The next food you must get out of your diet to overcome acne is reducing your grain intake, especially gluten. Gluten can cause inflammation of your intestinal tract. When you have inflammation of your gut it actually shows up on your skin. A lot of people think when you have acne or a problem like eczema, that's just a skin issue. No, that's an intestine issue, that's a gut issue. If we can heal your gut, if we can kill of the bad bacteria, your acne and problems like eczema would disappear forever. So number one food-wise, get rid of the sugar out of your diet.
I'm also talking about really lowering your fruit intake as well, really only consuming berries in moderation for a time being. Lowering your fruit intake, getting rid of grains or lowering grains, or at least going gluten free with your grains.

And then the last thing here is staying away from hydrogenated oils. Obviously, bad fats increase the amount of oil your sebaceous glands on your skin really start to produce. So again, getting those bad fats out. If you can do those dietary changes, get the sugar out. Rather than using grains, using products with coconut flour or almond flour are good options rather than hydrogenated oils. Switching over to coconut oil is a great option for getting rid of acne.

Let's talk about the top foods you've got to start eating to get rid of your acne for good. Three main foods you want to be getting in your diet; number one, foods that are high in fiber. Fiber can actually reduce acne and actually kills off bad bacteria in your gut, increases the growth of good bacteria known as probiotics which is very important. So fiber is really important to get in your diet.

Your best sources of fiber are going to be seeds like chia seeds and flaxseeds, also nuts like almonds. Those are some great options. And then vegetables. Vegetables and sprouted nuts and seeds will help you get rid of acne.

Another important aspect of getting rid of acne for good is balancing out your blood sugar levels. If you're consuming a lot of sugar it's going to cause your blood sugar to go up and down. That causes bad bacteria to grow, also causing acne.

So the next nutritional step is consuming more protein. Getting good quality protein sources like organic chicken and turkey, grass fed beef, wild caught fish, organic eggs, these are all great sources of protein, even sprouted brown rice protein. Getting some good protein in your diet will balance out blood sugar levels and help you get rid of acne.

Last but not least, you want to consume healthy fats. The best sort of fat for getting rid of acne is coconut oil. I would get all other oils out of your household. I really even wouldn't use olive oil in large amounts. I would use coconut oil for all of your cooking and for almost everything you're doing. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties, which means it's going to kill off bad bacteria in your body which is going to fight off acne.

So again, remember these top foods. At the beginning, make sure you're getting healthy fat, fiber and protein in every single one of your meals. What this would look like is for breakfast doing a smoothie where you put in coconut milk, a couple tablespoons of flax meal or flaxseeds or chia, and then getting a good quality source of protein like an organic protein powder, and doing that for breakfast. You're getting your fat, your fiber, your protein and that's going to help fight acne.

Now, let's talk about the best supplements for fighting acne. Number one is taking a good quality probiotic supplement. Probiotics kill off the bad bacteria in your gut and really also help boost your immune system. Part of acne can be caused by intestinal problems, and 80% of your immune system is located in your gut. So if you can be consuming probiotic rich foods like cultured vegetables, kefir, yogurt, amasi, different products that are higher in probiotics, that's going to help big time in taking a good quality probiotic supplement. About 50 billion IUs daily is what you want to look for in a probiotic supplement.

The next supplement that will help big time is Zinc. Where does zinc work? Zinc helps repair your gut lining and naturally boosts your immune system. Taking about 50 milligrams of zinc a day is very effective in fighting acne. The third nutrient and vitamin supplement you want to be getting in your diet to fight acne are antioxidants. I believe the one that is most effective is elderberry. You can buy elderberry syrup or elderberry extract. Put a tablespoon of that in your smoothie every morning for breakfast that I just mentioned.

If you do those three supplements, those are very, very effective at fighting candida. Last thing here, you can even also do one other thing. Consider doing a candida cleanse. That's basically where for about a week straight you basically get all sugar out of your diet, all grains out of your diet and really consume a diet high in probiotics, high in certain other foods like fiber, but really, this how you should be eating on a daily basis in general.

Last but not least, when you're using a face wash, go and buy tea tree oil face wash. Tea tree oil is completely natural. It's an essential oil and it kills off bad bacteria on your skin and moisturizes at the same time. So go and find a good organic tea tree oil face wash.

So what are your four steps again here to get rid of acne forever?

Number one; remove sugar from your diet, remove gluten from your diet and most grains, and then get rid of the bad oils like canola oil and vegetable oil. Switch over to healthy oils like coconut oil. So again, those are your food changes.

Number two; let's talk about the foods you must be consuming. You've got to get healthy fats like coconut in your diet every day. You need healthy protein like grass fed meat and organic chicken and turkey. Also, you need to be consuming fiber-rich products. And the last couple of things here, supplement-wise you've got to get more probiotics, zinc, antioxidants and tea tree oil face wash.

If you do those things, you're going to fight acne and get rid of it for good. Hey, guys, if you like this post I recommend you visit this site now, and can't wait to see you next blog article.

Coconut Oil Pulling Benefits and How to do Oil Pulling

Hey guys, Carlos here. Today, I'm going to show you how to do oil pulling, and this is something that's not just a hot, trendy thing right now. This has been done and had major benefits for thousands of years. It's used today in India and Asia all the time for your oral health.

You may be wondering, well what exactly is oil pulling? Oil pulling is taking oil, typically sesame oil, olive oil, or coconut oil, and swishing it back and forth between your teeth. The health benefits are it can actually help heal and cure tooth decay. It's been shown to help heal bleeding gums. It's been shown to naturally whiten your teeth, strengthen your jaw muscles, and overall cleanse your mouth and even support weight loss, some people claim.

The truth is this, I was talking to a really well known dentist recently and he was telling me that, and this is true from all the medical research, that the health of your mouth, the bacteria in your mouth, correlates with the health of the rest of your body. So by healing your mouth and improving your oral health you can actually improve the health of your entire body. In fact, periodontal disease, or gingivitis or bad bacteria buildup within your mouth, is an indicator that you are at higher risk of heart disease.

Again, it's very, very important that you're cleansing not just your body but your oral cavity in your mouth on a regular basis. This is also a great thing to do to naturally freshen up your breath and give you a glowing smile. So here is how you're going to do oil pulling. You're basically going to take two teaspoons of, I like coconut oil. Now, I like coconut oil over other oils because it has antifungal and antimicrobial properties so it will kill off any of that bad bacteria that's in your mouth and also support the growth of good bacteria.

So you're going to do two teaspoons in your mouth. You're going to swish it in-between your teeth. Don't overdo it. You'll make your mouth sore. Lightly swish it in-between your teeth for about 10 to 20 minutes. I'm not going to do that here on this post, I'm going to do it for about 10 to 20 seconds, but typically you want to do it 10 to 20 minutes. That may seem like a long time but if you do it while you're in the shower, that's a great time to do it. That'll be five minutes alone. Even if you can do just that five minutes, it is still greatly beneficial. So do it while you're in the shower, do it while you're reading at night, you can do it while you're just kind of getting ready in the morning.

But doing oil pulling as I said, doesn't have to be complicated, about 10 to 20 minutes. Afterwards, you're going to spit out the oil in a cup or in the trashcan and then after that you're going to rinse your mouth out with water and then, finally, you're going to brush your teeth as normal. So I'm going to demonstrate here how this would work. (If you want to see fullinstructions Click Here Now)

And again, you're going to first take here, I'm going to get a big loaded tablespoon or teaspoon here of coconut oil and I'm going to put it in my mouth, kind of chew on it for a minute and then swish it. I'm going to do it for about 20 seconds so I guess I'll have to be quiet here. You can see me chewing here. It'll melt within about 15 seconds. Now, I'm going to start to swish. Do that for 10 to 20 minutes, spit it out, and then the next thing you're going to do is get some water and swish this in-between your teeth.

Finally, you'll brush your teeth as normal, and I guarantee, do this even if it's just five minutes, ideally 10 to 20, but your mouth will feel so clean. You're killing bad bacteria, you're whitening your teeth, you're getting fresher breath. One other thing you can do in your oil pulling if you want to get additional benefits is add along with the coconut oil five drops of essential oils. You can do essential oil of frankincense which actually helps support immunity. You can do a lavender, which helps your gums. You can also do something like tea tree oil or a blend that has cloves in it or cinnamon, which actually can help kill off bad bacteria as well.

Doing a little essential oils with the coconut is something else you can do together. But just simply coconut oil, I recommend doing this two weeks straight every day and then after that, twice a week. If you do that you're going to bring your dental and oral health to the next level.

Coconut for Everything - Is this real?

We've got an addiction to oil in the world. Coconut oil. It's good for your hair, for your skin, for cooking, for mental health, for … FOR EVERYTHING. But is this real? Or just another fad.

This post is a review about coconut oil benefits. If you want full information Click Here Now

Is it just Facebook, Twitter and everyone I know or are people are actually coo-coo for coconut oil? In the 1980s, coconut oil was considered terrible cholesterol-causing junk. Yet in 2002, the New Statesman published, "People who eat coconut oil in place of other vegetable oils" are free of degenerative diseases, have a healthier BMI, and live longer. And there's a rumor it can even cure Alzheimers.

Lucky for us, science has spent some time looking into it. A coconut isn't a nut (or fruit, or seed), it's a drupe, like a peach or apricot. Coconuts on trees are fleshy bits, each containing a single brown pit or stone, which is what we call the coconut. Coconut oil is exactly what you think it is, a result of processing the white meat of a coconut, the endosperm, to extract its oil. There are a handful of ways people accomplish it, but they all end up drying, boiling, or pressing its flesh.

The change from the 1970s and 80s to today, is coconut oil production has gotten better. Virgin coconut oil wasn't available then, and instead it was a highly processed oil product. But is today's product really better? Processed coconut oil contains 92 percent saturated fat; butter is only 64 percent, and both beef and pure LARD are only 40 percent. Unlike animal fats, coconut oil doesn't contain cholesterol. Instead, it influences cholesterol in the body -- which is manufactured by the liver. Saturated fat causes inflammation in the blood vessels, so we should keep an eye on it because consuming a little coconut oil is going to have a large impact on saturated fat intake.

Coconut oil ALSO contains medium-chain triglycerides, or MCTs -- which are ALSO processed by the liver, the main MCT in coconut oil is called lauric acid, which is associated with increases in HDL cholesterol (the good kind) and is associated with decreased body fat, but it also raises LDL cholesterol (the bad kind which causes heart problems). According to Dr. Walter Willett of the Harvard School of Public Health, "overall effects on health can’t be predicted just by the changes in LDL and HDL." And there just hasn't been enough time to do long-term studies to figure out the true benefits or drawbacks of the oil.

In 2011 a molecular biologist from University of California Davis told the New York Times, "there is no concrete scientific data yet to support" the health benefits of coconut oil. So far this new coconut oil fad seems to be driven by hype more than actual information. People hear the media spout its health benefits and throw it on ALL their foods; but moderation is more important. Chances are too much is going to cause more harm than good. Sure, the HDL boost is nice, but both soybean and olive oils lower LDL and raise HDL; and there are other compounds in the dregs of this drupe which may affect the body in other, as yet unknown, ways.

With regard to Alzheimer's, coconut oil has no scientific evidence to support it, only a book written by a pediatrician about her husband's experience with Alzheimer's. What we DO know, is coconut oil works for baking as a substitute for butter, vegans have tested that for us, but while coconut oil might be better than the saturated fats in meats and butter, its benefits are not as proven as all-mighty olive oil.
